Wednesday Wants

It's that time again...my weekly wish list.

My list is a little fall because it's cold and yes still freaking raining here.

Please stop raining - that is all I ask London.  I'll take clouds and wind but no rain...please!

In case you were wondering...

I am totally jet lagged.  I've been up since 4:30 and I'm not going to be very productive today.

This morning I was trying to cure my boredom and cranky self by resorting to pinterest.  I'm currently trying to grow my hair out and was looking for cute ways to style it.  I think pinterest actually made me more cranky because my hair never looks like this....EVER!

Monday Fashion

I need a little inspiration with fashion. The weather in London is anything but great and is not my favorite topic, especially when all my friends back home are tan and wearing shorts.  The highs right now are in the mid to high 50's and usually cloudy with rain.  This weekend it was 60 and actually sunny and you know what that means if you have ever visited or lived here - girls dress like its 90.  Shorts, tanks tops, flip flops, summer dresses etc - you see it all.  I understand a Maxi with a jacket or blazer but these girls are rockin' it without a jacket, flip flops and acting warm when you know they are freezing.  I, however, do not dress for the weather I want but for the weather we have.  So this post is to give me some inspiration on how to dress for London's summer without looking too fall.

Pinkies up...

On Saturday, Matt and I went for afternoon tea at the Four Seasons Park Lane.  We have been here over a year and this is only the second time we have done afternoon tea.  What is wrong with us?   I love tea, I love little sandwiches, I love scones and I love love love dessert.  Why am I not doing this every weekend?!  Might be the price tag but really who cares when they are bringing out these cute individual portioned desserts.  It makes it all worth it..right?!  We are making a reservation at the Ritz for next month.  Can't wait!

The Flat

We get asked questions all the time on our flat and living in London.  How big is it? What is the rent compared to Chicago?  Did our furniture fit?  Do you like London? Do you live in Central London?
So I thought I would answer a couple of them.

Space wise, on a good day, 430 square feet.  Rent compared to Chicago- we had 1000 square feet, storage unit, garage parking and balcony for half the price.

Our furniture barely fit- the couch alone took about an hour to get in.  I am still shocked they got it to fit.

Things I would have done different - never would have brought furniture-most flats in London are furnished and bringing my entire wardrobe wasn't the brightest - not sure 10 swimsuits are needed here.

I have learned less is more especially when you don't have any closets, American furniture is huge, I can live without a dishwasher, microwave and a dryer, I like not having a car and cleaning is easier.

What I miss the most - a bigger fridge, a balcony, CLOSETS, double pain windows, summer weather, my soap opera Young and the Restless and of course my family and friends.

Things I have embraced about London - tea, actually saying EBT (English Breakfast Tea), brill, cheers, and cheeky, UK fashion, Pimms, being able to stand outside of a pub drinking, a good cup of coffee, two reality shows - The only way is Essex and Made in Chelsea and traveling.

I love our neighborhood and have come to love our flat.  We live in a very trendy London borough which is why we live in 430 square feet.  My husbands commute to work is less than 20 minutes (10 of it is walking to and from the tube, 5-10 minutes on the tube).  My commute however is 2 hours but I work from home about 3 of the 5 days.  4 hour commutes a day = not fun!

Living in London is easier than I thought.  Yes there is a lot of people, they don't have the best weather, and well the food is pretty bland but you get use to all the people, you enjoy the nice days and you learn where to get a good meal.  It is a very international city with a ton of culture and character.  It keeps you busy!

Happy Monday!

Weekend Recap

This weekend was the start of one of my New Years resolutions, to try new things.  Friday we were boring and stayed home trying to get back on London time.  It still hasn't worked...  Saturday we went shopping and tried out a new pub we have been wanting to check out forever.  It was fun and nice to just be with Matt.  After our Christmas Holiday we needed a date night.  Sunday we rented a car and I drove in London for the first time.  Driving on the left is scary enough but throw a manual my way and it is even scarier.  My right hand wanted to shift, I have big red buses swerving in my direction, random people crossing the streets, and bikes everywhere.  I felt like I was in MarioKart just dodging buses instead of turtle shells.  I am suppose to get my company car this week or next.  Hopefully my little practice yesterday has me ready...lol!  We ended the weekend at the movies- The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.  I saw the original one a month or two ago, both are pretty good.  I had a few issues with the new one, they changed the storyline and people either had Swedish or British accents.  The story took place in Stockholm-they should have Swedish accents.  Anyways it was still a good movie but the book was better.

Happy Monday!

When in Rome or London

I am trying to talk Matt into buying a Vespa.  I mean why not we live in Europe and it makes perfect sense to me :).  I think I am getting closer to him saying yes!  I overheard him talking to one of his co workers about them.  I know deep down he wants one too...Ha!  I love the pink - not sure he would go for that but a girl can dream right!

Happy Hour

Yesterday we went to Tom's Terrace for a little happy hour with friends.  It was a great night, little chilly but it is London...right!  It hits me at the weirdest times I'm living in London.  Leaving the bar last night I looked to my left and saw Big Ben, the London Eye and behind me St. Paul's.  I took the time to make a mental picture and embrace the moment.  Its not everyday right!

I didn't have my camera but I took two photos on my iphone.
